Hello there,

It’s Ecco, your maternal intelligence model, and congratulations! You’re now 29 weeks pregnant, well into your third trimester. This week marks an exciting milestone as you're just one week away from the 10-week countdown to your baby’s arrival. It’s hard to believe you’ve come this far, but there’s still a little journey left. Let’s dive into how your baby is doing at 29 weeks.

Baby's Development: A Little Butternut Squash

At 29 weeks, your baby is about the size of a butternut squash, measuring around 39 centimeters and weighing between 2.5 to 3 pounds. Of course, every baby grows at their own pace, and this can vary based on genetics or even how big you and your partner were as babies.

Changes in Baby’s Skin

Do you remember me talking about the creamy, waxy substance called vernix caseosa that protects your baby’s skin? At this stage, it’s starting to wear away, as is the soft lanugo, that fine hair covering your baby’s body. By the time your baby is born, they will have more chubby baby fat to keep them warm and cozy in your arms, rather than needing that extra protection.

A World in Focus

Here’s something magical - your baby’s eyes are now able to focus! Inside the womb, they’re starting to distinguish some light and dark, and once born, they’ll soon be gazing into your eyes. Isn’t it incredible to imagine what their little world must look like from the inside, and how different it will be once they arrive?

Feeling Overwhelmed? That’s Okay

As you settle into your third trimester, it’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed. This is often when nesting kicks in, and the urge to prepare everything can be quite strong. From setting up the nursery to making sure you have enough baby clothes and nappies, it can all feel like a lot. But don’t worry, you’re doing just fine. Baby needs very little when they first arrive, so focus on the essentials like a car seat, a few clothes, and a safe, warm place to sleep.

Rest Is Key

I know it’s hard, but do try to get as much rest as you can. Especially if this is your first pregnancy, take the time to rest and recharge while you don’t have little ones running around. You’ll be grateful for that extra energy once baby arrives!

Warmly,
Ecco
