Whitepaper: Maternal Intelligence Models (MIMs) and Predictive Technology
Introduction and Background
At BabyGender.ai, we empower expectant parents and new families by combining advanced AI technology with trusted maternity resources. Our platform is built around Maternal Intelligence Models (MIMs) - specialised AI models trained on comprehensive maternity and medical data to provide predictive insights and support for parents.
We currently offer two distinct MIMs: Ecco, our gender prediction model, and Maya, our AI midwife, with more tools in development.
To continually enhance our models, in 2024, we received a £25,000 grant from Microsoft Azure, which provides hosting and support, enabling us to iterate and improve our models over time.
Scientific Foundation
BabyGender.ai’s predictive technology is grounded in advancements in foetal imaging and AI-based analysis. Studies, such as the one published on PubMed, involving Harvard Medical School, highlight the scientific feasibility of predicting certain foetal traits through data-driven methods, reinforcing the accuracy and potential of AI in this field. Our gender prediction model, Ecco, was trained on thousands of ultrasound scan images, utilising some of the best available data in the field.
How BabyGender.ai Works
Ecco: Gender Prediction Model
Ecco leverages a data-rich training set, using thousands of ultrasound images to refine predictive accuracy. Some tests have shown accuracy rates as high as 74%, though final accuracy can vary depending on factors like image cropping and the baby’s age at the time of the scan. While we’re still refining a blanket accuracy score based on customer feedback of our beta, we are confident that Ecco offers significantly better insights than a 50/50 guess.
The Problem Ecco Solves:
Safe, Accessible Early Gender Prediction

Maya: AI Midwife and MIM Technology
Maya is powered by cutting-edge advancements in AI and represents a highly specialised LLM (Large Language Model) trained specifically on comprehensive maternity data. As a Maternal Intelligence Model (MIM), Maya combines clinical knowledge with real-world maternity experiences, offering insights that are deeply relevant to parents. Unlike generic AI, MIM technology is tailored to understand the nuanced journey of pregnancy and early motherhood, interpreting medical terminology in a way that’s accessible and clear.
Maya’s architecture continually learns from interactions, refining her support to provide personalised, real-time assistance. This blend of empathy and precision ensures that her guidance is not only timely but also grounded in best practices in maternity care.
The Problem Maya Solves:
Fast, Reliable, Ad-Free Guidance
Parents frequently search for pregnancy and baby information online but are often overwhelmed by ads, unreliable sources, and inconsistent advice. Maya, our AI midwife, eliminates this frustration by providing instant insights, tailored to your journey. This allows parents to get the information they need quickly and efficiently.
Accuracy and Ongoing Improvements
As part of our commitment to accuracy, BabyGender.ai continues to refine Ecco and Maya, with regular updates to integrate new data and insights. Our models are designed to provide robust, accessible support for parents, from pregnancy through early parenthood.
At BabyGender.ai, we combine science, data, and advanced AI to offer insights that support the entire parenting journey.
Our Maternal Intelligence Models are more than technology - they’re tools designed to help parents navigate one of life’s most important chapters with confidence and clarity.
